Rizatriptan is a drug product that belongs to the class of drugs called triptans. It is used for the treatment of migraine headaches with or without aura in adults. Rizatriptan is metabolized by cytochrome P450, which leads to the production of N10-didesmethyl N10-benzyl rizatriptan and other metabolites. The metabolites are then excreted through urine and feces. Rizatriptan has been shown to have niche applications, as it has been found to be more potent than other triptans in some animal models of headache. Rizatriptan does not bind well to plasma proteins and therefore has a high purity rating, allowing for a lower risk of adverse effects.
