1-(2,4,6-Trimethylphenyl)-2-(dicyclohexylphosphino)imidazole is a diene that has been shown to polymerize in the presence of triphenylphosphine and telomerization with ether. The resulting polymer is water-soluble and exhibits a high degree of thermal stability. It can be used as an additive in polymeric materials such as polyurethanes and polyamides. 1-(2,4,6-Trimethylphenyl)-2-(dicyclohexylphosphino)imidazole is acidic and non-polar. It has also been shown to effectively catalyze the synthesis of polymers from a variety of monomers including styrene, methyl methacrylate, acrylonitrile, vinyl acetate, butadiene, and styrene oxide.
