Indium hydroxide (In(OH)3) is a chemical compound that is an inorganic compound with the formula In(OH)3. It is a colorless solid with a metallic luster. Indium hydroxide crystallizes in two different forms, alpha and beta, depending on the conditions of its formation. Alpha form is obtained by heating indium oxide in an atmosphere of hydrogen gas, while beta form is obtained by heating indium oxide under atmospheric pressure at higher temperatures. The alpha-form has a cubic symmetry and lattice constant of 5.5 Å, while the beta-form has hexagonal symmetry and lattice constant of 8 Å. In both cases, the unit cell has 6 formula units. Indium hydroxide can be used as an efficient method for removing chloride ions from water by precipitation as insoluble indium chloride (InCl3). This process is driven by the fact that chloride ions are more soluble than indium ions in water.
