15(S)-Hydroperoxy-5(Z),8(Z),11(Z),13(E)-eicosatetraenoic acid (15HPETE) is a molecule with a hydroxyl group that is part of the eicosanoid family. It is produced by the oxidation of arachidonic acid, and it has been shown to have an inhibitory effect on cell growth in explants. This molecule was found to be present in adipose tissue, where it inhibits the biosynthesis of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2). 15HPETE also has chemotactic activity for neutrophils, which may be due to its ability to stimulate histamine release from basophils.
