Tenosal is a fatty acid that is used in the treatment of inflammatory diseases. Tenosal has been shown to have pharmacokinetic properties similar to other fatty acids. Tenosal inhibits the enzyme phosphodiesterase, which is responsible for the degradation of cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP). This inhibition causes an increase in cAMP levels, which leads to increased production of prostaglandin E2 and nitric oxide. These are both inflammatory mediators that help to control inflammation. Tenosal has also been shown to inhibit the enzyme cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4), which may lead to drug interactions with other drugs metabolized by this enzyme.
