Acetyl tetrapeptide-5 is a peptide that is used in cosmeceuticals for skin care. It has been shown to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin, which are proteins that help maintain the structure of skin cells. Acetyl tetrapeptide-5 also has a synergistic interaction with the food additive butanediol, which is used as an absorption enhancer. This peptide also has been shown to increase blood flow by dilating blood vessels and increasing capillary permeability. Acetyl tetrapeptide-5 stimulates the growth of skin cells in cell culture and microcapsules, which may be due to its ability to promote chemical reactions. This peptide is not active against bacterial strains such as Staphylococcus aureus or Streptococcus pyogenes.
