D8-MMAE is a peptide inhibitor of protein interactions. It has been shown to bind to the receptor in the absence of ligand and activate it, leading to an increase in the production of nitric oxide. D8-MMAE is a potent activator of ion channels, especially those with high permeability to calcium ions. It has also been demonstrated as a novel reagent for use in immunocytochemistry and immunohistochemistry, as well as a research tool for studying protein interactions, receptors, and ligands. D8-MMAE is made of eight amino acids that are joined by amide bonds. The molecule has the following structure:
