5-Epicanadensene is a compound that is found in the bark of Taxus cuspidata. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells, including breast and prostate cancer. 5-Epicanadensene has also been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties. In pharmacokinetic studies, it was observed that this compound was absorbed by the body rapidly and distributed throughout the body within 24 hours. 5-Epicanadensene is a precursor for taxol, which inhibits the activity of protein kinase C and other enzymes involved in cell proliferation. This compound also alters gene expression in tumor cells.
