It binds to transition metal ions such as copper and nickel, which are important for the catalytic activity of many enzymes. The binding of N-(2-bromo-6-nitrophenyl)acetamide to the active site of these enzymes inhibits the reaction by forming a complex with the substrate, thereby preventing it from reacting with the enzyme.
