BCI-215 is a small molecule inhibitor of the extracellular phosphatase, which is an enzyme that dephosphorylates proteins. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells. BCI-215 has also been shown to inhibit the activation of mammalian cells, and it can be used in tumorigenicity studies. BCI-215 activates MAP kinase activity in mammalian cells and inhibits growth factor receptor tyrosine kinases. BCI-215 has been targeted for profiling by high throughput screening methods using phosphatases as bait molecules. This drug has demonstrated a phenotype of activating cellular signaling pathways through protein phosphorylation and inhibition of extracellular phosphatases.
