8-Methoxyquinoline-3-carboxylic acid is an amino acid that has been shown to have antiviral and antitumor properties. It is a triethylamine derivative that inhibits the growth of bacteria by hydrolyzing the 8-methoxyquinoline ring. The antimicrobial activity was observed in vitro against Escherichia coli and Bacillus subtilis, with a MIC value of 3 µg/mL. It also showed significant antiviral activity against influenza virus type A (H1N1) with an IC50 of 1.5 µg/mL, as well as mouse hepatitis virus with an IC50 of 0.5 µg/mL. 8-Methoxyquinoline-3-carboxylic acid can be used as an antibacterial agent for topical use or for oral administration for bacterial infections such as dental caries, periodontitis, or osteomyelitis.
