N-[[(5S)-3-(4-Methylsulfinylphenyl)-2-oxo-1,3-oxazolidin-5-yl]methyl]acetamide is an oxazolidinone antibiotic that inhibits protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit. It has a wide spectrum of activity and has been shown to inhibit the growth of staphylococcus and streptococcus faecalis. N-[(5S)-3-(4-Methylsulfinylphenyl)-2-oxo-1,3-oxazolidin-5-yl]methyl]acetamide is active against most strains of staphylococci and streptococci, including methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). This antibiotic is orally bioavailable and can be used for the treatment of tuberculosis.
