SA 57 is a drug that has optical properties and is used to treat pain. It has been shown to be effective in controlling inflammatory pain in rats by inhibiting the production of prostaglandin and monoacylglycerol, which are associated with inflammatory pain. The mechanism by which SA 57 suppresses inflammatory pain is not yet known. This drug also has antinociceptive effects in rats and mice, as well as an analgesic effect in humans. Pain relief was observed when SA 57 was administered concomitantly with morphine or heroin.
SA 57 blocks the binding of endocannabinoids (eCBs) to their receptors, leading to reduced inflammation and pain. The eCBs are lipid molecules that are derived from arachidonic acid and synthesized by the body's own cells, called endocannabinoids. Some eCBs have been found to be anti-inflammatory agents, while others have been found to be pro-inflammatory agents.
