Moxifloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV. It has been shown to be active against most gram-positive bacteria, including Streptococcus pneumoniae and Staphylococcus aureus. Moxifloxacin is used in combination therapy with other drugs for the treatment of infections caused by these bacteria. The drug has also been shown to be effective in treating methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infections. Moxifloxacin has been shown to inhibit the activity of enzymes such as polymerase chain reaction, glucose injection, and benzalkonium chloride. These enzyme activities are important for bacterial growth.
