Tetrachlorvinphos is a pesticide that can be used for the control of mosquitoes and other insects. It has been shown to have toxicological effects in humans, including toxic effects on enzymes and genotoxic activity. Tetrachlorvinphos has been shown to cause DNA strand breaks, chromosomal aberrations, sister chromatid exchange, DNA adducts, and mutations in the liver, stomach, small intestine, lung and kidney cells of mice. These studies indicate that tetrachlorvinphos is genotoxic and carcinogenic.
