Ethyl 2-aminobutanoate is a neuroprotective and anti-inflammatory agent that belongs to the group of unsaturated alkyls. It has been shown to have an effect on GABA receptors, which leads to increased levels of gamma-aminobutyric acid in the brain. This effect can be observed in rat models with infectious diseases and inflammatory diseases. Ethyl 2-aminobutanoate also inhibits protease activity, which may be due to its ability to inhibit inflammation. Ethyl 2-aminobutanoate has been shown to be effective in treating autoimmune diseases and is able to suppress the production of proinflammatory cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNFα) and interleukin 1 beta (IL1β).
