Cochliophilin A is a natural product that is extracted from the bark of a tree found in Malaysia. It has been shown to have strong antimicrobial activity against bacterial and fungal cells. Cochliophilin A prevents bacterial growth by inhibiting the synthesis of fatty acids, which are essential for bacterial cell division. This compound also disrupts the production of fatty alcohols, which are necessary for the synthesis of phospholipids in membranes. The particle size is small enough to inhibit chelerythrine, a molecule that inhibits cancer cells by binding to their surfaces. This bioactive compound also has an inhibitory effect on plant cells and can be used as an agent to control plant diseases such as powdery mildew and rusts.
