- Cyclobutyl-acetic acid methyl ester
Methyl 2-cyclobutylacetate is an amide that is used as a pharmaceutical intermediate. It can be synthesized by reacting ethyl formate, pyridylamine, and pyridine in the presence of lithium diisopropylamide. The cyclopropane ring is then formed by the reaction with chloroacetic acid. The yield of this compound is about 60%. Methyl 2-cyclobutylacetate can also be synthesized by reacting methyl cyclobutylcarbinol, thiourea, and ethyl formate in the presence of lithium diisopropylamide. This yields methyl 2-cyclobutylacetate with a yield of about 50%.
