14-Bromotetradecan-1-ol is a liquid organic compound that has a sweet and phenolic odor. It is a synthetic, unsaturated ketone with hydroxyl group and long carbon chain. This compound is synthesized by the reaction of bromine with trimethyl phenoxy. 14-Bromotetradecan-1-ol is used as an analytical reagent for the detection of silicon in polymers, alkoxycarbonyl groups in polymers, and to identify the presence of phenoxy groups in polymers. It can also be used as a solvent for resins and dyes. 14-Bromotetradecan-1-ol has been shown to have neuroprotective effects in cerebral tissue when administered at high dosages.
