Isoetin is a natural compound that belongs to the group of p-hydroxybenzoic acid derivatives. It has an anti-inflammatory effect due to its inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis, which is mediated by the Cox-2 enzyme. Isoetin also inhibits the activation of transcription factors such as AP-1 and NF-κB, which are involved in inflammation. The anti-inflammatory properties of isoetin can be attributed to its ability to inhibit COX activity, which results in reduced production of pro-inflammatory prostaglandins. Isoetin also has a pharmacological action on liver cells by inhibiting the mitochondrial respiratory chain and reducing cellular respiration.
