Deoxyandrographolide is a cox-2 inhibitor that has been shown to be effective in the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease and bowel disease. Deoxyandrographolide inhibits the enzyme cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), which is involved in the production of prostaglandins, causing inflammation. This chemical compound has also been shown to inhibit mitochondrial cytochrome P450, an enzyme involved in the metabolism of many drugs, thereby increasing their bioavailability. Deoxyandrographolide has also been found to be effective against autoimmune diseases such as multiple sclerosis, systemic lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis, and other conditions involving inflammation.
