Chlorantholide C is a natural product that exhibits neuroprotective activity. It has been shown to bind to TNF-α and prevent it from binding to its receptors, which may reduce inflammation. Chlorantholide C also inhibits lipopolysaccharide-induced microglia activation and protects against the development of dementia in mice. The dichroism spectra of chlorantholide C showed an intense peak at 270 nm and a weaker peak at 320 nm, while the dichroism spectra of bv-2 cells exhibited an intense peak at 270 nm but no peaks at 320 nm. These results indicate that chlorantholide C may inhibit bv-2 cells by binding to TNF-α at 270 nm without affecting the cells at 320 nm.
