Folinin is a substance that has been used in traditional Chinese medicine. In the past, it was used as an acid-base indicator and as a substrate for film coatings due to its high sensitivity to buffer solutions. Folinin has also been shown to inhibit receptor binding and the metabolic disorders related to these receptors. This molecule inhibits the proliferation of cancer cells and also slows down degenerative diseases. Folinin has an optical property that is sensitive to hydroxyl group and can be used as a probe for determining the presence of this molecule in mammalian cells.
