Formononetin-7-acetate is a flavone found in the leaves of the plant F. africanum. It is an inhibitor of cyclooxygenase, which blocks the production of prostaglandins and thromboxanes. Formononetin-7-acetate has been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects, inhibiting the production of cytokines and other inflammatory mediators. It also inhibits platelet aggregation, as well as binding to estrogen receptors α and β, which may play a role in its ability to inhibit breast cancer cell proliferation.
