RG7834 is a potent inhibitor of the telomerase enzyme, which is an important factor in the replication of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1). RG7834 inhibits viral replication by inducing an antibody response to HIV-1 and by preventing the synthesis of viral RNA. This drug also inhibits the expression of a molecule that is important for cellular life, such as toll-like receptor 4. RG7834 has shown potent inhibition against a variety of viruses, including hepatitis C virus and cyanobacterial viruses.
