3,3-Dimethylazetidine oxalic acid is a citric acid derivative that is used in analytical chemistry for the determination of fatty acids. 3,3-Dimethylazetidine oxalic acid reacts with the hydroxyl group of the fatty acid to form an ester and carbon dioxide. The reaction mechanism is shown in figure 1. In addition, it has been shown to be an effective catalyst for the synthesis of sodium salts from metal chlorides. This product is also used as a solid catalyst for the formation of organic acids and can be used to study enzyme activities by observing changes in particle size.
