It is prepared by the reaction of copper with benzotriazole and chloride in an acidic solution. 3,7-Diethylnonane-4,6-dione has been shown to have a thermally stable molecular structure and can be used as an additive in the preparation of magnesium. The product yield for this compound is high and it can be used as a chelating agent for butyryl groups. Butyryl chloride reacts with 3,7-diethylnonane-4,6-dione to form butyryl diimidazole.
