• Descrição: L-Penicillamine (L-Pen) is a metabolite of penicillin and is the toxic from of penicillin’s two enantiomers L-Pen and D-Pen. While D-Pen is a clinically useful metal chelator protein with its ability to help treat Wilson’s diseases and possible Alzheimer’s disease, L-Pen can result in neuritis and marrow damage. It is important therefore that methods are developed, particularly in the pharmaceutical industry, to identify and eliminate the presence of L-Pen. One such method is using a chiral molecular imprinting technique.
