WWL 70 is a drug candidate that acts as a neuroprotectant. It has been shown to reduce neuronal death and improve locomotor activity in mice with brain injuries. The mechanism of action of WWL 70 is not fully understood, but it is thought to be related to the endocannabinoid system. In addition, it may also act by regulating insulin sensitivity and reducing pain. As an anti-inflammatory agent, WWL 70 may inhibit the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines by microglia cells and adipose tissue. This drug has been shown to have membrane permeability and binding affinity for CB2 receptors. It has also been found to have potent activity against DU145 cells and sciatic nerve ligation in rats, although it was not effective in models of cancer or inflammation.
WWL 70 does not show any toxicity at low doses (LD50>5000mg/kg), but showed some hepatotoxicity at high doses (LD50=2000mg/kg).
