Schumanniofioside A is a natural product isolated from the roots of Schumannia brevifolia. It has been found to have potent anticancer activity and has been shown to inhibit promyelocytic leukemia cells in culture. Schumanniofioside A's anticancer activity may be due to its ability to inhibit protein synthesis by binding to the enzyme RNA polymerase II. This compound also inhibits the growth of colon cancer cells, which may be due to its ability to suppress angiogenesis by inhibiting the production of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF).
