Tegerrardin A is a natural product that belongs to the acridone family. It has been shown to have antibacterial activity against Gram-positive bacteria, including Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pyogenes, and Enterococcus faecalis, as well as Gram-negative bacteria such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Acinetobacter baumannii. Tegerardin A has also been shown to have radical scavenging activity in the presence of iron ions. This compound has a skeleton with two heterocycles bound at the 3- and 4-positions of the acridone ring system. In addition, this molecule has been found to be cytotoxic against cancer cells in vitro. The molecular modeling studies show that Tegerardin A binds to the aromatase enzyme and prevents it from binding to its substrate.
