It is an inhibitor of ion channels and has been used in research on the pharmacology of protein interactions and antibody binding. This compound was first isolated in the early 1990s and it was shown to block voltage gated sodium channels (VGSC). Since then, it has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of VGSCs from a number of species, including rat, guinea pig, human, and bovine. N-[2-(2,3-Dihydro-1-methyl-1H-indol-5-yl)-2-(dimethylamino)ethyl]-N′-(4-fluorophenyl)urea is soluble in DMSO or DMF solvents
