Egcg octaacetate is a synthetic analogue of the green tea polyphenol epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG). Egcg octaacetate has been shown to inhibit endometriosis and endometriotic lesions in mice, as well as to inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus. This compound also has a lipophilic nature that may allow it to cross the blood-brain barrier. Egcg octaacetate is structurally similar to subtilisin, an enzyme found in bacteria. It has been shown to have homologous effects on cell culture and on subtilis.
