Octreotide is a somatostatin analog that is used to treat acromegaly, carcinoid syndrome, and other conditions. Octreotide has been shown to be effective in the treatment of bowel disease and inflammatory bowel disease. The long-term efficacy of octreotide has been demonstrated with positron emission tomography (PET) studies in patients with human serum. Octreotide binds to receptors on cells that produce growth hormone and inhibits the release of somatostatin from these cells. It also inhibits the production of insulin by binding to receptors on beta cells in the pancreas. Octreotide is synthesized as Lys(ac)⁵)-octreotide acetate salth-D-Phe-Cys-Phe-D-Trp-Lys(ac)-Thr-Cys-L-threoninol acetate salt (disulfide bond). This product can be identified by a hydroxyl group on one side of
