It has been shown to react with thiones and sulfoxides to form new compounds, such as α,β unsaturated aldehydes and methyl esters. The molecular structure of this compound consists of four pyridine rings connected by two carbon bridges. Thallium is used in the synthesis of methyl 2-sulfanylidene 1,2 dihydropyridine 3 carboxylate but it is not present in the final product.
