Nutlin carboxylic acid is a small molecule that has been shown to be active in cancer and metabolic disorders. It is a bifunctional molecule with a heterocyclic ring system. Nutlin carboxylic acid selectively inhibits the activity of the protein homeostasis regulator E3 ubiquitin ligase, which is necessary for the degradation of cell cycle regulatory proteins such as p53 and Rb. This inhibition may result in an accumulation of these proteins, leading to increased cellular proliferation and decreased cell death. Nutlin carboxylic acid also potently inhibits cancer cells in nanomolar concentrations and can be used as an anti-cancer therapy.
