Descripción:
Isopropil β-D-tiogalactopiranósido (IPTG) es un compuesto sintético comúnmente utilizado en biología molecular como un inductor de la expresión génica. Es un galactósido, específicamente un tiogalactósido, lo que significa que contiene un átomo de azufre en lugar del oxígeno en la parte de galactosa. IPTG es estructuralmente similar a la lactosa y es reconocido por el sistema del operón lac en bacterias, particularmente Escherichia coli, donde se une al represor lac, lo que lleva a la activación de genes bajo el control del promotor lac.
