Methanethiol is a compound that occurs naturally in the environment. It is used as a fungicide, insecticide and herbicide. Methanethiol inhibits the growth of microorganisms by binding to metal ions on the surface of cells. This prevents DNA replication and protein synthesis, leading to cell death.
