It is a monocyclic, heterocyclic ring with two carbon atoms and a thiocarbonyl group. 2-Cyclopentylethanethioamide has been shown to have antimicrobial activity in vitro and in vivo. The bioavailability of 2-cyclopentylethanethioamide is low due to its poor solubility in water. This compound can be synthesized by reacting sodium borohydride with cycloalkyl compounds, which are readily available from petroleum products. The yields are variable depending on the composition of the starting material, but they generally range from 30% to 50%.
