It has been shown to be neurofibrillary in the brains of mice and rabbits, as well as β-secretase, an enzyme that is involved in the production of amyloid beta peptides. 4-(Difluoromethoxy)phenylacetylene inhibits both γ-secretase and β-secretase activity by binding to their active sites.
