Tridecanoic Acid Ethyl Ester is a fluorescent probe that can be used to detect hydroxyl groups in proteins. The compound has been shown to bind to the fatty esters of proteins and increase the rate of oxidative DNA damage. Tridecanoic Acid Ethyl Ester has also been shown to be pro-inflammatory, which may be due to its ability to cause cytokine release from macrophages and other cells. Tridecanoic Acid Ethyl Ester is a metastable form of tridecanoic acid, an aliphatic hydrocarbon with a saturated carbon chain that contains three double bonds. This compound is not soluble in water but can enter cells through passive diffusion and membrane transport mechanisms.
