13(S)-Hydroxy-9(Z),11(E),15(Z)-octadecatrienoic acid is a metabolite of the omega-3 fatty acid, maytenus. It has been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects in neutrophils and colonic damage in animal models of colitis. This compound also reduces TNF-α production by neutrophils after stimulation with LPS. 13(S)-Hydroxy-9(Z),11(E),15(Z)-octadecatrienoic acid has also been shown to inhibit intestinal inflammation in mice by promoting the production of microalgal derived oxylipins that regulate immune responses and inflammation.
