Zinc oxide is used as a sun screener. It serves as an additive in products such as cigarette filters, plastics, anticorrosive coatings, ceramics, glass, cement, lubricants, ointments, adhesives, sealants, pigments, batteries, ferrites, fire retardants, and first-aid tapes. Zinc oxide plays an important role in textiles as UV-absorber. It can protect rubber from fungi and UV light. As a wide-bandgap semiconductor with favorable properties, it has the potential for use in transparent electrodes, in nanorod sensors, in liquid crystal displays, as thin-film transistors and light emitting diodes, and in heat-protecting windows. This Thermo Scientific Chemicals brand product was originally part of the Alfa Aesar product portfolio. Some documentation and label information may refer to the legacy brand. The original Alfa Aesar product / item code or SKU reference has not changed as a part of the brand transition to Thermo Scientific Chemicals.
