It provides chemical potential energy in alkaline batteries to pump electrical charges between the negative and positive terminals. It is used as a fuel for model rockets with a mixture of 2.04 parts zinc to one part sulfur. It is used as protective pigment in industrial coatings, as a reducing agent and catalyst in a variety of chemical reactions.
