Product Information

Name:
Amikacin hydrate, Antibiotic for Culture Media Use Only
Description:

Amikacin hydrate is an aminoglycoside antibiotic that has a broad spectrum of activity against Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria, as well as some mycobacteria. It is used in the treatment of many bacterial infections, including those caused by Neisseria gonorrhoeae and Legionella pneumophila. Amikacin is also used to treat respiratory tract infections, such as pneumonia. Amikacin inhibits protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit and blocking the attachment of aminoacyl transfer RNA to the mRNA molecule. Amikacin binds with high affinity to bacterial ribosomes, but does not bind to mammalian ribosomes. This agent also has been shown to inhibit replication of flaviviruses in cell culture.
