Cytidine-5'-diphosphate is a nucleotide that is used in the synthesis of RNA. It is synthesized from uridine in vivo by the enzyme cytidine monophosphate synthase. Cytidine-5'-diphosphate reacts with diacylglycerol to form phosphatidylcholine, which is an important component of cell membranes. Cytidine-5'-diphosphate also has been shown to activate an enzyme called fatty acid synthetase, which catalyzes the rate-limiting step in the synthesis of fatty acids. Cytidine-5'-diphosphate is involved in transfer reactions, such as DNA replication and repair, and structural analysis.
