3,3'-Diiodothyronine is a thyroid hormone that is used for the detection of thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) in human serum. This method is based on the competition between TSH and 3,3'-diiodothyronine for binding to trifluoroacetate esterase. The TSH concentration is determined by measuring the amount of 3,3'-diiodothyronine released from the trifluoroacetate esterase. This method has been shown to be clinically relevant because it can detect abnormal levels of TSH in patients with thyroid disorders. The matrix effect can be reduced by adding a high concentration of human serum albumin to the reaction mixture. 3,3'-Diiodothyronine is an endogenous compound that has light signal at 206 nm and its optimum pH is 7.4. It also has hydroxyl groups and a molecular weight of 285 Da.
