Allyltriphenylstannane is an allylation agent that can be used to form C-C bonds between aryl groups. Allyltriphenylstannane is also used as a cross-linking agent and its stability in the presence of other reagents, such as chloride, makes it useful for these purposes. A typical use of allyltriphenylstannane is in the production of polyesters by esterification reactions. The reaction products are alkynyl groups and phenyl groups with a structural formula that includes an ester group. Allyltriphenylstannane has been shown to react with an alkene to form a metathesis product by using hydroxide ions or ethoxide ions as catalyst.
