1-Aminonaphthalene-2-sulfonic acid is a chemical compound that is used to make diazotization. It has been found to be sensitive to light, heat, and oxygen. 1-Aminonaphthalene-2-sulfonic acid can also lead to interferences with biological properties, but there are many other uses for this chemical. It is used in the synthesis of drugs and as an intermediate for the production of synthetic dyes. The nitrite group on this molecule can react with hydroxyl groups to create nitrous acid or it can react with hydrogen peroxide to create hydrogen dioxide. This chemical has been shown to cause atrophy when applied topically in a cutaneous study. 1-Aminonaphthalene-2-sulfonic acid also undergoes a number of chemical reactions including oxidation, reduction, hydrolysis, and condensation reactions. The two possible stereoisomers are cis and trans configurations.
