2-(Ethylamino)benzoic acid is a depressant that belongs to the class of fusarin. It has been shown to have locomotor activity in rats and mice, when administered systemically. 2-(Ethyl-amino)benzoic acid also inhibits the production of serine proteases, which are enzymes that break down proteins in the body. This compound is biosynthesized from anthranilic acid by a methyltransferase enzyme and has been shown to be active against strains of bacteria such as Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. 2-(Ethylamino)benzoic acid is unstable at high temperatures and can be hydrolyzed by esterases, glutathione reductase, or cytochrome p450.
